Child and Lunch

Your School Lunch Program Needs YOU! Join us on a mission to improve your school.

Healthy eating habits begin at childhood, and creating a positive food environment is easier than you may think. Start by including fresh ingredients, eliminating high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners and using good cooking oils. Swap white bread, rice and pasta for commonly available whole grain versions. Simple steps like these can make a big impact on the nutritional quality of the foods being served.

Look to local farmers for everything from apples to watermelons, plus meat and dairy products—they have it all. The closer your food grows to you, the better it tastes. Local food is fresh and seasonal and comes directly from the farm.

Eating seasonal food means having peaches in the summer and pumpkins in the fall. It’s a win-win for everyone: Kids eat fresh, you support the farmers, and we leave a smaller carbon footprint on the environment. And as an added bonus, your school menu will change with the seasons, teaching kids when certain foods grow and how to choose the freshest food available at any time of year.

Improving our kids’ health and nutrition is a lesson that lasts a lifetime. And what better venue for a life lesson than at school?
