Bring Lunch Day to Your Child’s School

A few tips on how you can start planning this year’s event.

Want to learn more about what your kids are eating at school? Bring National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day to your child’s school! At the event on October 17, parents will have lunch their child in the school cafeteria. Here’s how to get started:

Learn more about school lunch. Arm yourself with knowledge: Learn about what should—and shouldn’t—be in a school lunch. When you know about newest government requirements for school lunch and what a lunch tray should look like, you’ll be ready to make the most out of visiting your child’s school.

Build a team to create the event. If you want Lunch Day to happen at your child’s school, don’t try to do it alone! You can begin by getting together with other parents, discussing it with members of the PTA, or meeting with your school’s principal or administrator. Here’s a sample letter that you can send to school officials, which explains all about National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day.

Get the word out! Encourage other parents to take part on October 17 by including info about the National Take Your Parents to Lunch Day toolkit in PTA and other announcements, or posting about it on your school’s Facebook page if it has one. And, to help your school with planning, point them to the special School toolkit, which includes a sample invitation to send to parents, a checklist for making the day happen, and more.
